THE CHRISTMAS PRESENT

People are scurrying everywhere in every spare moment in jostling crowds in preparation for Christmas.  A present for everybody must be under the Christmas Tree.  No one must be disappointed, feel left out, feel unloved.  We even put money in the kettle or give to needy causes.  To some, it is a pleasant time: to others, it is filled with stress.

On a calm peaceful night some twenty centuries ago, the greatest present ever given to mankind came to this Earth.  No one's sleep was disturbed.  Only shepherds in the fields knew of any unusual occurrence.  Accustomed to laying awake under the stars, they were shocked at the brilliance of one unusual star.  It was so bright it was seen by Maggi many miles away and interpreted by them as a sign of the birth of a ruler.  The only pressing matter at the time was the census ordered by Ceaser Augustus which forced all people to return to their ancestral city to be counted.  For that purpose, Mary, expectant Mother of Jesus, was in Bethlehem, City of David the King.  No lodging was to be found and She and Joseph, her betrothed husband, sought refuge in a stable.  The child was not by Joseph but by the Holy Spirit of God.

Her time was accomplished that night and Jesus The Christ Child was born there in that manger.  An angel had foretold, "He shall be called the Son f God" and "Emmanuel".  God, with us, came to be our Saviour from the penalty of our sins and Lord of our lives.  He wasn't forced upon us.  Like our present day Christmas presents, He was placed on a tree with each of our names written on the package to await our acceptance.

When Christmas Morning comes and all the names are called with the presents unwrapped and accepted with joy.  Ask yourself, "Is the Greatest Gift of All still waiting on the tree with your name written on it, still wrapped, unaccepted, brokenhearted with His Love for you."  What will you do with Jesus, the greatest present ever to be known?

  1. Beautiful story. I will think about this Christmas morning and will wrap one with a note inside which simply will read "Jesus". I will wrap one for each of my children and one for Joe. And if it is Ok with you, I will enclose this story to go along with the name Jesus. Thank you. Tammie Ward-Sunday

  2. It was written to be used as a thought provoking tool. For you to use it as outlined simply furthers that purpose. My approval and God Bless your effort.
